Hillcrest Garden - SALI Silver Award Winner 2011

Client Brief:

The home owners of this newly built home, asked for a garden which is structured, neat, easy to maintain and accommodating to their young children.  A number of water features were requested and we were to make use of existing flower pots.

The Site:

 This new home is situated on a housing estate in Hillcrest, KZN.  The property has a very gentle slope with beautiful views of the surrounding open space.  The soil conditions are very poor due to high clay content and there were no established plants on the property

The Design:

In order to meet the client’s needs, plant material was layed out in large uniform expanses, indigenous plants suited to the conditions were selected, and an irrigation system was installed. 

To further assist maintenance for the garden, other features were added such as the lawn edging and weed-guard under gravel.  A formal layout of plants and the formal style of water features were chosen to best suit the style of the home.

The clever design of water features and careful selection for the appropriate plants was to ensure that the garden was safe for young children.
